Lapland

Gemdale has a portfolio of properties in Lapland, in northern Finland, north of the Arctic Circle. These properties, known as the Sirkka Extension Claims, include Vuollosvaara, Palkisvaara, Paksuselkä, Hilkunavaara and Molkankummut, to the south and east of Sodankyla. In addition, Gemdale has the Ranta properties further to the northwest, closer to Agnico Eagle’s Kittila Gold Mine, the largest in Europe. Gemdale considers the properties to be variously prospective for gold and critical metals such as copper, nickel, cobalt and platinum group metals (PGMs).  In recent years, the area has shown increased attention from major (and junior) exploration companies, including Kinross Gold, Rio Tinto and Kobold.  The Company’s Lapland projects are available for joint venture deals with other entities.

Despite very limited gold exploration historically in the area, it was deemed prospective based on Gemdale’s interpretation of continuity of structures associated with the gold-rich Sirkka Thrust (or Sirkka Shear Zone) into this area. This was supported by regional till studies by the GTK. The Palkisvaara, Paksuselka, Molkankummut, Ranta and Ranta 2 Exploration Permit’s have been approved, while the others are still in application and remain pending approval.

Gemdale has carried out exploration activities on the properties consisting of boulder hunting, outcrop mapping and sampling, some limited stream sediment sampling and a surface till sampling program on the Palkisvaara property, which identified a number of follow-up targets for nickel and copper.
